Florida Tech Applied Mathematics Summer Camp for High School Students Set for June 3-14

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics student chapter at Florida Institute of Technology will host an inaugural applied mathematics summer camp on campus June 3-14, from 2 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The camp is open to students in grades 9-12. Because there are only 18 seats available, early registration is encouraged.

At the two-week camp, students will get hands-on experience at the cutting edge of modern applied mathematics and operations research, and learn valuable problem solving skills and the software language MATLAB. Among the many topics covered are game theory and strategy, or how to maximize chances for success; continuous optimization, or how to find the best solution to a problem; image processing, or, how computers see; and speech processing, which is how to teach a computer to hear like humans do.
