Engineering Students Receive NASA Aeronautics Scholarships

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Two Florida Institute of Technology students recently received NASA Aeronautics Scholarships. The awards are presented annually to 20 undergraduates who have at least two years of full-time study left to complete their degree. Other awardees include students from Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Purdue University.

The award includes up to $15,000 for each school year for education-related expenses and a summer internship at a NASA Research Center. A stipend of up to $10,000 is offered to students who conduct aeronautical research between their junior and senior year.

Award recipients from Florida Tech are juniors Roderick Blevins of Maryville, Tenn., and Michael Sorrenti of Oakville, Conn.

Blevins, a mechanical engineering major, hopes this internship will give him the chance “to see thepotential that lies within his current field of study whilesimultaneously gaining invaluable professional experience for the future.”

Sorrenti, a computer engineering major, expects that this opportunity will provide him with further research experience and the chance to publish scholarly papers. He plans to attend graduate school.
