Foosaner Art Museum Hosts Congressional Art Competition April 14

MELBOURNE, FLA.—In collaboration with Congressman Bill Posey’s office and the Brevard Cultural Alliance, the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, will host the Congressional High School Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery April 14 at 9 a.m. The free event, which has a patriotic theme, will be at the museum’s Harris Auditorium and is open to the public.

The competition gives high school students an opportunity to showcase their artwork. The winner’s artwork will be displayed in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Works by the first and second runner up will be displayed in Congressman Posey’s Washington and Florida offices.

An application of intent to enter the contest must be received no later than April 6. Teachers or home school students should complete and submit an Exhibit Inventory form. To obtain the form or to send in an application, contact Pam Gillespie, director of community relations for Congressman Posey, at pam.gillespie@mail.house.gov or fax at (321) 639-8595. Those who submit an application before April 6 will receive a formal invitation.

Artwork entries will be accepted April 14, from 9 to 10 a.m.; no exceptions will be given for late submissions. Entries must be submitted with a completed Student Information and Release form and label form. Students, families and teachers are invited to view exhibits on display in the museum galleries from 9 to 11 a.m.

The students’ artwork will be displayed and judged from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, there will be hors d’oeuvres and a short program beginning at 11:30 a.m. The winner of the contest will be announced thereafter.
