Florida Tech Plans New Performing Arts Series, Seeks Sponsors

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology is pausing its 25-year-long Humanities Lecture Series to plan its next cultural outreach to the community, a Performing Arts Series.

“The university has grown culturally quite a bit in 25 years,” said Robert Taylor, head of the Department of Humanities and Communication. “We’ve added a music director, a faculty band, jazz concert series and other musical offerings. We’ve opened the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts and this spring will present the fifth French Film Festival. We’re ready to offer something new.”

Taylor foresees that the new series will still include humanities lectures but also musical performances, dance, films and other artistic expressions. “We will develop our existing successful programs for delivery to an audience and showcase the university’s ongoing commitment to the liberal arts,” he added.

Because execution of the planned series will require sponsorship, friends of Florida Tech are being actively sought in the Space Coast community.
