InSTEP Lecture Explores Forensics that Help Marine Species

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Ann Spellman, marine mammal biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, will present “The Use of Forensics in
Conserving Marine Mammals and Other Marine Species” on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The lecture will be in the Eau Gallie High School Auditorium. Part of Florida
Tech’s Integrated Science Teaching Enhancement Partnership (InSTEP) program, the talk is free and open to the public.

Spellman, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida Tech, is highly regarded for her work with manatees and dolphins.
InSTEP is funded by a $1.7 million grant to Florida Tech from the National Science Foundation. The program enables university graduate students and faculty
to work with high school science teachers in Brevard County public schools to develop inquiry-based learning modules.
