Lecture Offers the Latest on Lightning
– Florida Tech’s Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series will present, “Seeing Lightning with X-Ray Vision,” on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. The
presentation, free to the community, will be in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex auditorium, Room EC118.
The lecturer is Dr. Joseph Dwyer, Florida Tech professor of physics and space sciences. There will be stargazing
afterward, on the rooftop of the Olin Physical Sciences Building, weather-permitting.
Dwyer will speak on his own discovery of intense X-ray emissions from natural lightning and rocket-triggered lightning. He will discuss new measurements of
X-ray emissions and describe an exotic electrical discharge called runaway breakdown.
The F.W. Olin Engineering Center is located on University Blvd. For more information, call (321) 674-7207, or visit fit.edu/aapls.
