Marine and Environmental Science Camp: 1st Annual Recycle Regatta
The Marine and Environmental Science Camp held its first annual recycle regatta. After learning about buoyancy and ship design, the campers made sailboats out of recycled material. They were given a number of materials to choose from, including: aluminum cans, plastic milk jugs, newspaper, egg cartons, paper towel rolls, tin foil, juice boxes, glass bottles, cardboard boxes, and much more. After construction, the marine and environmental science campers were able to race their sailboats in the FIT fluid mechanics wave tank. Campers designed many types of boats and had lots of fun in the process!

There’s a wonderful audio story on this done by a Florida Tech communication student who interned at WFIT this summer:

I’ve heard the person who did that story is pretty awesome.
