Science Lectures to Begin at Palm Bay High
– A series of four lectures, sponsored by Florida Tech’s Integrated Science Teaching Enhancement Partnership (InSTEP), with Brevard Public Schools, begins
Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Palm Bay High School Auditorium. The first speaker will be Florida Tech Professor of Biological Sciences, Mark Bush, who will present “Is Talk of Climate Change Just Hot Air?” The seminar is free and open to the public.
Dr. Bush has led over 20 expeditions into the rainforests of Amazonia and Indonesia to study forest ecology. Author of over 70 papers, he has also written
the popular textbook, Ecology of a Changing Planet. Bush also serves on the Advisory Board for Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Land Program and
is member of the InSTEP Resource Faculty.
InSTEP is funded by a $1.7 million grant to Florida Tech from the National Science Foundation. The program enables university graduate students and faculty
to work with high school science teachers in Brevard County public schools to develop inquiry-based learning modules for integrated science.
The lectures will continue in mid-December at Bayside High School. For more information, contact Jennifer Hanselman, InSTEP project coordinator, at (321)
