Student Film Festival Highlighting Marine Science at Gleason March 16

12 Short Films from U.S.

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Twelve short films touching on marine science and conservation made by K-12 students throughout the United States will be presented at the Youth Making Ripples Film Festival Thursday, March 16, at Gleason Performing Arts Center on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology.

The event is free and open to the public.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with interactive demonstrations, kid-friendly educational activities, and more. Organizations such as Blue Life and the Brevard Zoo will be on hand with information, and prizes will be raffled off.

The films, which represent winners and finalists chosen from more than 60 entries, will be shown starting at 7:15 p.m., followed by the announcement of the winners of the Best of Brevard award.

“The Youth Making Ripples competition allows young people from around the country to use their creative talents to serve as a powerful voice for our oceans,” said Angelica Zamora-Duran, a graduate student assistant at Florida Tech who is helping to organize the festival. “By making these films, students become engaged in science and conservation and can share their knowledge with a broad audience, making this process even more impactful.”
