Astronomy Lecture on March 27 Explores the Universe

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series will present “Exploring an Eleven-Dimensional
Superstring Universe — Physics or Metaphysics?” on March 27 at 8 p.m. The free lecture, in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex auditorium, Room EC118, will be
presented by Marc Baarmand, Ph.D., professor of physics and space sciences.

Although difficult to envision things in four or more dimensions, there are theories in elementary particle physics that require extra dimensions over the
ordinary three to which we are accustomed. After a brief introduction Dr. Baarmand will describe how these theories can be tested in experiments at CERN,
the center for particle physics in Switzerland, in near future. A 20-minute movie on CERN and particle physics will also be shown. The lecture will be
followed by roof-top public star viewing if weather permits.

The F.W. Olin Engineering Center is located on University Boulevard. For more information, call (321) 674-7717, or visit www.fit.edu/aapls online.
