Florida Tech Upsets Eckerd 3-1 In SSC Volleyball Action

Senior Kelly Currin notches season high 20 kills falling seven short of 1,000th career mark

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Senior middle hitter Kelly Currin (Waynesville, Ohio) led all hitters with 20 kills to help defeat the Tritons in their third Sunshine
State Conference win on the season. Florida Tech (8-20, 3-8) fell in game one 30-26 only to come back and take the next three sets 32-30, 30-26 and 30-26
to defeat regionally ranked #10 Eckerd College (12-11, 3-6) tonight at the Clemente Center.

Currin tallied and impressive .395 attack percentage for the match with three service aces and seven blocks for the evening. She reached 993 career kills
hoping to notch her 1,000th against Saint Leo on Senior Night this Friday. Sophomore setter/outside hitter Amanda Boyce (Madison, Wisconsin) also grabbed
her second triple double of the year with 15 kills, 28 assists and 14 digs against the Tritons.

Tech was able to out hit the Tritons 75 kills to 55 kills going .197 to their .169 attack percentage for the match. Both teams were about even at the net
with Eckerd squeaking by with the advantage at 11.5 team block to Techs 11.0 team blocks. Defensively, The Panthers had 88 digs to a disappointing 66
Triton digs for all four sets.

Each team fought hard to gain control with 25 tied scores including 13 in set two and seven lead changes in the battle for the conference victory.

Despite the loss, four Tritons managed to hit in double figures. Freshman outside hitter Angela White (Virginia Beach, Virginia) led her team with 13 kills
and 11 digs for the double double. Freshman middle blocker Leah Melton (St. Augustine, Florida) and senior opposite hitter Andrea Krzystan (Servena Park,
Maryland) each had 11 kills with Krzystan chipping in six blocks.

Key reservist, freshman outside hitter Keisha Carter (Tallahassee, Florida) added ten kills. The Triton’s sophomore setter Shannon Ruby (Littleton,
Colorado) led all players with 46 assists and led her team with 18 digs.

Three other Panthers beside Currin and Boyce out up double figures to help the Panthers land the SSC win. Senior outside hitter Jenny Hart (Clermont,
Florida) had 12 kills and a game high 21 digs for her fifth double double of the season. Junior middle hitter Jenny McCoy (Titusville, Florida) and
sophomore outside hitter Jessie Metzger (Oxford, Connecticut) each pitched in eleven kills. Metzger notched her first career double double while McCoy put
up four blocks.

Tech’s third senior setter Natasha Bender set and dug her way to her 4th double double on the season as well setting her team high 37 assists and
defensively notching her season best 16 digs. Tonight’s win was a combined effort by all the Panthers even junior Libero Megan Konopnicki (Plano, Texas)
added 14 digs and key bench personnel sophomore Lindsay Foster (Titusville, Florida) hit the game high .429 for the match with four kills and three block
assists.

The Panthers will finish their final home game on Friday against Saint Leo in a 7:00 p.m. SSC match-up. Before the match, the three senior will be honored
for their four year’s of dedication to the Panther volleyball program.
