Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts Presents Japanese Calligraphy Workshop Nov. 5

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts at Florida Institute of Technology announces its fall 2012 workshop “Japanese Calligraphy.” The workshop will be presented Monday, Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. to noon on the second floor mezzanine of the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.

Participants will join instructor Reiko Nishioka, director of education for the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, for a one-hour workshop and demonstration of Japanese calligraphy.

Participants will learn proper writing form and how to write basic Japanese characters with ink and brush. Kits will be provided.

Admission for the workshop is $15 for the general public and $10 for Friends of Textiles members. All skill levels are welcome. Please RSVP by Oct. 31 to textiles@fit.edu or call (321) 674-8313. This event is presented in conjunction with the Center’s current exhibit Battle Worn: Masculine Ideals and Military Identity in Modern Japanese Textiles, which will be on view at the Ruth Funk Center through Dec. 15.

Regular hours for the Ruth Funk Center are Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. The Center is located next to Evans Library on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne at 150 W.
