Panthers Left at Sea by Buccaneers

MELBOURNE, Fla. (men’s basketball) – The Panthers walked the plank against the Buccaneers of Barry University 71-59 as they lose their 5th SSC game of the
year and fall into dead last of the Sunshine State Conference.

Panthers forward Jod Kelley (McCormick, S.C.) recorded his second double-double on the year after dropping 10 points and 10 rebounds on the night; Kelley’s
first double-double came in the first game of the year against Bethune-Cookman College where he scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jod also tallied
up two steals and two blocks on the night.

Tech got off on the right foot after point guard E.J. Murray (Rockledge, Fla.) hit a three pointer right off the tip from Kelley. Running with confidence,
the Panthers pushed through almost the entire first half with a slim lead. As 6:20 was on the game clock, the Buccaneers tied up the game off a free throw
and then took over the lead after another made free throw; 25-24. Barry then continued to go on a 10-4 run to finish out the half putting a half time lead
of 9 points on the Panthers at 37-28.

Each team coughed the ball up 7 times in the first half but the Panthers doubled the Buccaneers steals totaling 4 and defended the net with 5 blocks.

Playing from behind, the Panthers had to succumb the ten point lead the Buccaneers had made late in the first half through much of the second half. Tech
did rally a number of times to cut the deficit to singles digits but could only get as close as seven points halfway through the second half. Barry went to
push their lead to twelve at the end of game as the final score ended up 71-59 in favor of the Buccaneers.

After scoring the first two points in the second half, Tech went ice cold shooting 9 out of 29 for 31% from the field and 1 out of 8 from downtown for
12.5%. For the game, Tech shot 33.3% from the field and only 28.6% from beyond the arc. Hurting the Panthers was the game high of 14 turnovers on the
night.

Leading the way for the Panthers was the combination of Murray and Kelley. Murray finished with a team high of 14 points; right around his season average.
Kelley again recorded his second double-double on the year after a 10-10 night; 10 points and 10 rebounds. Close behind the leaders on the night was Justin
Sedlak (Pezinik, Slovakia) with 9 points; Justin continuously hovers around his average of 9.2ppg each game as he plays valuable minutes for Florida Tech.
As a team, Tech finished with 6 blocks and 6 steals on the night.

Tech sits at the bottom of the SSC as their record is now 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the SSC. Traveling to Nova Southeastern on Saturday, January 20th,
the Panthers have another chance in the SSC as they will take on the Sharks with a tip off time around 7:30 pm. Check out the Florida Today artivel by Carl
