Florida Tech Remains a Top School Nationally and at Home, US News Rankings Show

Magazine Assessed 1,500 Colleges and Universities

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech is a top national university and among the elite schools in Florida, according to the 2023 Best Colleges rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine assessed an all-time high of 1,500 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality, including retention and graduation rates, peer assessment surveys, class sizes, and faculty compensation. From that long list, the magazine ended up ranking 443 national universities. For the 13th consecutive year, Florida Tech was part of that list, coming in at No. 202.

In the Sunshine State, Florida Tech was No. 8 among all 79 Florida-based colleges and universities ranked by the magazine. It was No. 2 among the nine ranked private universities in the state.

Florida Tech was included among the top 212 national undergraduate engineering programs at schools with doctoral degres, moving up 12 spots from 2022 to No. 150.

In the Best Value Schools category, Florida Tech was fourth among the 10 ranked Florida schools, ahead of University of Miami, University of Central Florida and others, and 95th nationally out of 223 total schools.

Elsewhere in the voluminous U.S. News material, Florida Tech was included on multiple unranked lists that highlight several of the university’s key strengths, including campus ethnicity diversity; economic diversity; highest 4-year graduation rates; and highest proportion of classes with fewer than 20 students.

The full rankings and Florida Tech rankings are now available.

The U.S. News report is not the only fall ranking that spotlighted Florida Tech’s excellence.

In mid-August, the university was recognized with a new ranking for schools that are best preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow with “degrees of the future.”

Gizmodo’s Degrees of the Future 2022, presented by the tech news website and Statista Inc., a leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, included Florida Tech and a prestigious group of other universities, such as MIT, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins and Caltech, in the Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering category.

“We’ve only awarded accolades to a small number of institutions in each discipline,” Gizmodo said in announcing its ranking. “If a school appears on one of the following lists, it’s among the best of the best.”
