Florida Tech Engineering Professor Earns Gold Medal

– Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Ralph Locurcio, Florida Tech professor of engineering and director of the university’s Construction Management Program, has earned the
Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement. He was given the honor at the society’s national conference in
Louisville, Ky.

The medal is awarded for outstanding leadership and accomplishments supporting the society mission over one’s entire period of membership in the society.
Locurcio has been a member since 1969 and a SAME Fellow since 1985. He was singled out for his service as Chair of the Academy of Fellows and Industry
Affairs Committee. He coordinated several Engineering Service Chiefs Briefings and Senior Executive Group meetings.

Locurcio also belongs to the Space Coast post of SAME, which meets at Patrick Air Force Base, and is a member of Philadelphia and New York City posts.

Locurcio earned SAME’s Wheeler Medal for engineering achievement, in 1992, and was named one of Engineering News Record’s “Marksmen” for 1992 for his
leadership role in the Kuwait reconstruction.

His role in Kuwait following the Gulf War was a notable highlight of Locurcio’s career. As commander of the Kuwait Emergency Reconstruction office he was
responsible for leading the $600 million reconstruction of the country’s civil infrastructure immediately following the war.
