Lakshmi Narasimhon A.V., from Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India, is a graduate Mechanical Engineering student. He enjoys learning about the complexities of systems. He has completed two co-ops: one with Desapro, Inc and one with Custom Industrial Products, Inc. During his time working with Desapro, Inc, he assisted with designing and testing aluminum cases used to transport equipment and medical devices. He mainly focused on building a library for standardization. He also contributed towards engineering changes which helped the machine shop and purchasing department. During his time with Custom Industrial Products, Inc, he designed models of material lifts based on customized sales orders. He also built a master model which the engineers use on a daily basis. He also carried out Engineering Change Orders and designed eight elevators which were built and shipped all over the United States. In Lakshmi’s experience, he has found that it takes time to acquaint oneself with the industry and therefore it is important to follow procedures established at the company. His favorite part of his co-ops was when he realized how the knowledge he learned in class applied to the real world. In the future, Lakshmi would love to be involved in Research and Development. His advice for students interested in co-op: never stop job searching and take each application very seriously.
