Panthers Fall 1-0 and 5-3 in First Day of Barry/ NSU Softball Tournament

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (softball) — Florida Tech (5-7) started off the tournament opening up with Florida Gulf Coast falling 1-0 off of one homerun by the Eagles
and then proceeded to fall 5-3 against host Nova Southeastern 5-3 in a sloppy game two despite a two run homer by junior Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) in
the final game of the day at the Buccaneers Softball Complex.

In game one, Tech could not get an offensive run together to score allowing Carmen Paez to nail her fourth homer of the year to end the ball game scoring
Florida Gulf Coast’s lone run. Only three Panthers’ hit safely with senior Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) going 2-for-3 for the game. Senior Katie Naumoff
(Poland, Ohio) and junior Jen Wise (Auburndale, Fla.) each combined for the other two hits.

Starting Pitcher Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) kept the game scoreless in her 5.0 innings pitched allowing five hits, placing two on and fanning two
for the game. Junior reliever Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) came in for one inning giving up one hit on the sole run suffering the loss.

In the second game, five different crimson and gray sluggers managed to hit including Lugo who snatched two RBI plating Naumoff as well on her first
homerun of the season.

Naumoff and Wise were the only members to hit safely in both games for the day. Juniors’ Danielle Stanley (Garyson, Ga.) and Ali Wiegand (Tallahassee,
Fla.) each added one hit apiece while Wiegand plated Ashley Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) for the other run for Tech. Coleman who reached on a walk was brought
home after Wiegand launched one to left field finishing off Tech’s last ditch effort to make a come back on the top of the sixth.

West, now 3-5, garnered both losses on the day. In game two, she went four innings giving up two earned runs on four hits. West struck out four and walked
two for the outing. Husband came in for one relief inning allowing two unearned runs on two hits. Freshman Heather Boyts (Sarasota, Fla.) made her first
appearance of the week going 1.0 inning allowing only one hit facing four batters.

The Panthers will face host Barry tomorrow at noon in Miami Shores and then travel about ½ hour north to face Valdosta State in Ft. Lauderdale at a 5:00
