X-Culture: Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Guest Blogger: Rita Acevedo Rivera, Nathan M. Bisk College of Business student

So far, so good, that’s the best way for me to describe my experience working with my team. Since Mr. Muth talked to our class about the X-Culture project, I must admit I was concern about how I was going to be able to work with people that I’ve never seen  or talked to before. I’m not really the person to talk to strangers, so I knew right then that it was going to be a challenge for me and that I had to push myself out of my comfort zone.

Here I was getting an email with the names, emails, and countries of my teammates. I was shocked to see the variety of people from different countries, but I was more amazed to see that some them were from other countries than the ones listed. It was time for me to send an email introducing myself to the team. I didn’t know what to say about me but I just went ahead I told them what makes who I am, basketball and Puerto Rico.

My teammates were outstanding and open introducing themselves. As a team, we were all ready to work together and to achieve the highest grade possible.  We began right away letting each other know our Skype names and requesting each other on Facebook. One team member created a X-Culture team 1 page so everybody can communicate easily and faster. We all have done a good job communicating with each other daily on Facebook. Sometimes I get a little aggravated because I’m constantly receiving notifications on Facebook about the project and I’m either in class or sleeping. When it comes time to making decisions some of us volunteer for it but sometimes it gets challenging to distribute the tasks.

Right now we are trying to pick our company but we can’t agree on one. . We are working to come up with a decision as soon as possible and start working  deeply into the project. This projects hasn’t been easy for me. I have to constantly check my phone to communicate with my team. Hopefully as the days go by, I can find some love  for this project and instead of stressing I can actually enjoy it. I’m going to continue working with team regardless and get a good grade in this project.
