Things for High School Students to do at Florida Tech this summer

While the topic may be difficult to fathom in March, summer vacation will be here before you know it.

For many students, summer is a sacred time. A time to forget the books, teachers and all the homework. The beginning of break is often a joyous occasion. But then the inevitable happens: boredom sets in.

Don’t let this happen to you. Instead, do something worthwhile and awesome! How, you ask? Don’t worry—Florida Tech’s got you covered. The university offers a variety of unique summer opportunities that are open to high school students. Here are a few highlights:

1. Enroll in a Summer Camp
Have an interest in academics, sports or art? Chances are, Florida Tech has a camp just for you. Learn from talented professors, sports coaches and educators at the top of their chosen fields. Get hands-on experiences that many people only dream about. Make new friends from all around the world. Enjoy the beautiful weather of Florida’s Space Coast. Here is just a small sampling of available camps:

Youth Entrepreneurship Camp: Learn to recognize characteristics and practices of successful entrepreneurs, evaluate an entrepreneurial idea based on a product or service, interact and network with successful, young entrepreneurs while developing skill sets to help you throughout your future business career.

Summer Flight Camp: Learn about the dynamics of airplanes and the principles of flight during an immersive experience that showcases the broad spectrum of careers in the aviation industry.

Engineering Camp: Witness laboratory demonstrations and conduct well-designed experiments in aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and ocean engineering, as well as computer science, nanotechnology and physics.

2. Eat a Meal or Two at Panther Dining Hall
Skip your regular run-of-the-mill meal and come out for a real life taste test at Panther Dining Hall, more commonly referred to as PDH! With a number of daily specialty food options from around the globe, you can find just about anything that will suit your taste buds. And did we mention it’s all-you-can-eat?  3. Get Ahead with Summer Classes/Dual Enrollment

What better way to keep a sharp mind than to take a college level summer course? Florida Tech offers a variety of courses during the summertime in subjects such as business, engineering, communication, aeronautics and science. For all the dual enrollment requirements, here’s a helpful resource.

4. Visit, Visit, Visit!

One of the best things to do during your summer vacation is visit the universities on your college search shortlist. And even though Florida summers are quite warm, it’s still a great time to take a Florida Tech tour.

If you’re not local and can’t make it to Florida Tech this summer, that’s okay. You can always daydream about what you’ll do during summers as a college student. At Florida Tech, many students stay on campus for summer classes or participate in summer field study in the Florida Keys, Puerto Rico or the Galápagos Islands. Ever dreamed of studying in Europe?
