WFIT Launches Spring Fund Drive March 6

Florida Tech’s NPR Affiliate Seeking Donations for Program Support

MELBOURNE, FLA. — WFIT 89.5 FM, Florida Institute of Technology’s radio station and the only National Public Radio affiliate based in Brevard County, will launch its spring fund drive Friday, March 6.

The drive, which ends March 15, will be based at the station’s 6,500-square-foot Broadcast Center on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne.

“This is the community’s opportunity to show support for the music, interviews, NPR news, events and services that WFIT provides as the public radio station for all of the Space Coast,” said Terri Wright, WFIT general manager.

The station offers a variety of original programming, including daily news updates from WFIT partner Florida Today that bring the latest local headlines and other timely content to listeners.

The fund drive comes as the station marks its 40th anniversary. It was in April 1975 that WFIT first began broadcasting as a student-run station in the basement of Roberts Hall. Now, the station operates out of a state-of-the-art facility that includes a recently opened performance studio.

The station is seeking phone volunteers to assist with the fund drive. People interested may visit www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/458326042090 to sign up.
