Harris Corporation Creates Harris Distinguished Lecturer Series in Assured Information

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology has received a grant from Harris Corporation of $10,000 to found the “Harris Distinguished Lecturer Series” at the university’s Harris Institute for Assured Information. The first lecture is on Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. The lectures are free and open to anyone interested in the subject.

Dr. A.J. Catanese, president, Florida Tech, said, “the grant will provide funds to support public lectures by top security researchers, and aims to increase the visibility of the Space Coast as a national hub of assured information research.”

The lectures, to be held quarterly, will be hosted by the institute on the Florida Tech campus.

Richard Ford, Harris Professor of Computer Science in Assured Information, said, “We’re very excited to accept this award from Harris. There is a large base of information assurance professionals in the area who will appreciate world-class visiting lecturers.”

Jim Burke, vice president for corporate communications for Harris, said, “The lectures will help to provide access to established thought leaders and new perspectives on the hard problems of cyberspace.”

Dale Meyerrose, Harris vice president/general manager for Cyberspace Programs, will kick off the series Feb. 18 with his presentation, “Got Cyber?” at the institute. The presentation is part of a Florida Tech chapter meeting of the Information Systems Security Association, held in the third-floor classroom of the Harris Institute.

The new lecture series is part of a broader effort to build the information assurance capabilities of the Space Coast, a joint undertaking of Harris and Florida Tech. For more information, call Richard Ford at (321) 674-7473.
