Pathirathna Honored by United Third Bridge

Pavithra Pathirathna, an assistant professor of chemistry, was named Educator of the Year by United Third Bridge Inc., the 25-year-old Florida group focused on promoting and encouraging the education of Hispanics and minorities.

She was recognized for a remarkable program she launched in conjunction with Palm Bay Academy Middle School to foster interest in STEM among middle school students: a monthly STEM club featuring hands-on experiments, interactive lessons and captivating demonstrations.

Funded by a grant Pathirathna received from the National Science Foundation, the innovative collaboration seeks to inspire young minds, cultivate in them a love for STEM and scientific exploration, and help prepare them to be the next generation of chemists and STEM leaders.
