MELBOURNE, FLA. — Thomas Mira, who earned his MBA at Florida Tech in 1989, was the winner of the $37,000 grand prize at the university’s Chopper Dropper athletics fundraiser on Nov. 9 at Clemente Center.
The Legacy of 37 event featured Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame inductions and a banquet in addition to the exciting Chopper Dropper, where balls are dropped from high above and winners are crowned by having the balls they purchased finish closest to a central point.
In addition to the grand prize winner, there were four $3,700 winners:
- Nicholas Cordell
- Steve Fornadel
- Lisa Hamelin ’07 M.S.
- Jason St. Onge
And the winners of $370 each were: Geoff Barnett; Fin Bonset ’96, ’98 M.S.A.; Rebecca Cavalucci; Marian Dionne ’76, ’90 M.S.; Claude James; Lawrence Moebius; Kelley Oshea; Jill Vogel ‘76; Milo Zonka ’95.
A bit more about the winners:
- Bonset and Dionne are members of the Florida Tech Alumni Association, and Bonset was past president. He also serves on the College of Aeronautics Advisory Board.
- Oshea and Vogel are parents of current Florida Tech students.
- Rebecca and Eugene Cavallucci previously gave Florida Tech $50,000 towards the Cavallucci-Strouse Family Endowment for Ethics and Leadership.
