Florida Tech’s Guy A. Boy to Speak April 8 on STEM to STEAM Movement

Dean of School of Human-Centered Design a World-Renowned Expert

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The dean of Florida Institute of Technology’s School of Human-Centered Design, Innovation and Art and a world-renowned authority on creativity and innovation will offer a free presentation, “From STEM to STEAM,” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Foosaner Art Museum.

Guy André Boy will touch on education, creativity, information society and technology as he charts the evolution of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to a movement that values and incorporates the Arts, as well.

A question-and answer session with the audience will follow the lecture.

Boy has been a leading voice in the development of human-centered design and cognitive engineering for the last 35 years. He has worked internationally in research and with major companies in aerospace, automobile, defense, telecommunication, energy and software, as well as with large public organizations, and international bodies. He has advised on both strategic and operational issues concerning human-machine systems, advanced automation, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence and knowledge management.

The author of dozens of books and scholarly articles, including Tangible Interactive Systems, due out this summer from Springer Publishing, Boy is chief scientist for human-centered design at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and the senior research scientist at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition in addition to serving as dean and professor at Florida Tech.
