Miyakusu of Lockheed Martin Receives Florida Tech Employer Appreciation Award

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Dean Miyakusu, an administrator for Lockheed Martin in Cape Canaveral received the Appreciation of Support to Florida Tech Award at a recent Employer Appreciation Breakfast at Florida Institute of Technology. He has been with Lockheed for 38 years.

“We presented the award to Dean because he always goes ‘above and beyond’ to ensure that Florida Tech students are notified of job openings with Lockheed Martin at Cape Canaveral and that their resumes are considered by hiring managers,” said Dona Gaynor, director of Career Management Services. “When students are hired, Dean becomes their unofficial mentor and helps them transition to their work environment and succeed on their internships or jobs,” Gaynor added.

He was also instrumental in helping to place Florida Tech on Lockheed Martin’s list of key schools so that he and other hiring managers could officially recruit on campus. In addition to his efforts in assisting the students to apply for job openings at Lockheed Martin, Miyakusu volunteers on campus by participating in mock interview programs and other career events.

“I found Florida Tech to be a jewel of a find when we, Lockheed Martin at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, are looking for quality, technical entry level and intern hires. The Florida Tech students that we have hired are all high- performing employees. We also experience high retention rates with Florida Tech hires,” said Miyakusu.
