An Evening of Hope Raises $145K for Florida Tech’s Scott Center
Annual Fundraiser for
Research, Scholarships
MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Scott Center for Autism Treatment’s An Evening of Hope IX raised nearly $145,000 for research and treatment, scholarships and critical subsidies at the renowned, Florida Institute of Technology-based facility.
Led by honorary co-chairs John and Susan Hopkins, the April 8 event at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club in Indian Harbour Beach featured a Starry Night theme inspired by the Vincent Van Gogh masterpiece. Beach House Design was responsible for the décor. Florida Tech’s Student Astronomical Society provided guests the opportunity to view constellations and planets through high-powered telescopes while revelers danced to music by Wonderama.
John and Susan Hopkins highlighted the need for and impact of Scott Center services, telling the gathering how through the center their granddaughter developed the skills necessary for a richer and less-challenged life. Two additional sets of parents of Scott Center clients – Jennifer and Richard Michael and Suzanne and Joshua Dickey – shared inspiring stories of struggle and triumph, as well.
All funds raised at An Evening of Hope go toward research, treatment, subsidies and the Scott Center’s WISH scholarships, which provide early intervention treatment for children with autism and related disorders to families that otherwise could not afford it.
“We are so honored by the support that the community provides to the Scott Center,” said Executive Director Michael E. Kelley. “Community support is a fundamental part of our ability to serve individuals and families affected by autism. The WISH scholarships are special because they represent the ultimate community effort. We hope the stories told at An Evening of Hope inspire others to join our mission to provide clinical service, research and training for our community.”
Again this year, Kempf’s Jewelers in Indialantic generously donated a Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-MASTER II, the grand prize in a raffle that is a key component of the Scott Center fundraising efforts. The 40mm, stainless steel timepiece, valued at $8,450, was won by Susie Wasdin.
