Tri-Alpha Honor Society Inducts 165 in Inaugural Ceremony

Florida Tech’s Mu Tau chapter, established in January 2025, of the Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society, or Tri-Alpha, held its inaugural induction ceremony March 26.

With nearly 300 chapters nationwide, Tri-Alpha is the only honor society specifically for first-generation students. Membership is also open to first-generation alumni, faculty and staff.

During the ceremony, 95 students, 59 alumni and a handful of faculty and staff were inducted, including Kevin Boodoosingh ’20, ’21 M.S., Vicky Knerly ’01 M.B.A., ’06 M.S., ’18 D.B.A., David Luginbuhl, Jason Martin, Lee Ann Martucci, David McMahan, Glenn Miller, Yesenia Nahl ’09, ’14 M.B.A., Suzanne Odom and Richard Turner.

Provost John Z. Kiss was among the guest speakers for the event.

Martin, dean of Evans Library, serves as the chapter’s faculty advisor, while Carolynne Garutti, assistant director of student life, serves as the staff advisor.

“Being a first-generation college student can be difficult. The college experience can be overwhelming at times,” Martin said. “Not only does Tri-Alpha recognize and reward first-gen students’ hard work, but it gives them a place to connect with other students like them and to find support from faculty and staff who have gone through the same struggles.”
