Psychology Student Receives Prestigious U.S. Army Scholarship
MELBOURNE, FLA. — For the third consecutive year, a Florida Tech School of Psychology student has received the F. Edward Herbert U.S. Armed Forces Health
Professions Scholarship. Ashley Franklin, a second-year doctoral student from Denver, Colo., received the prestigious scholarship during an on-campus
ceremony.
The school’s Director of Clinical Training, Richard T. Elmore, presented the award to Thompson and performed the swearing in ceremony. Recipients of the
scholarship receive full tuition and, following graduation, complete an internship and begin three years of U.S. Army service. Thompson will be a clinical
psychologist in the army.
There are just 15 scholarships presented nationwide each year and Franklin was the only recipient in Florida. On receiving the scholarship, she said, “I
have wanted to serve in the military since high school, and now I am able to while also utilizing my degree in psychology.”
